Worship

At Church of the Wayfarer, the meaning and inspiration of tradition blends with a more contemporary form of worship to create a dynamic Christian experience for both families and individuals.

Services include both classical and contemporary music, while sermons emphasize Christian teachings illustrated by contemporary events and experiences.

Our Sunday Worship begins at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  Loving nursery care is available for children up to four years old.  Children ages four through sixth grade participate in worship until the Children’s Message is presented.  At that time, they are welcome to attend the children’s classes which begin at 10:15 a.m.

We join together for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the service during our Fellowship Hour in the Garden Room.

We have two adult education classes on Sundays:  8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.  Both classes meet in the Library.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a haven for dog lovers, and the Church of the Wayfarer is no exception!  Well behaved pets are always welcome during worship.  Our annual Blessing of the Animals is favorite event in our community; we invite you to watch the calendar for the next Blessing event.

A Ministry through Music

Church of the Wayfarer is a superb musical venue. The European flavor of the sanctuary is warm and inviting.

In the balcony reposes the 32 rank Schoenstein pipe organ that was installed in 1992. Its luscious romantic style is truly an asset to any service. The orchestral resonance of this instrument is unsurpassed on the Monterey Peninsula.

In addition, a Yamaha C7 grand piano sits on the main sanctuary floor and is a favorite of all artists who perform on it.

Guest Performers

Each Sunday of the year a guest artist brings their musical gift to The Wayfarer.

The available resources include the Schoenstein pipe organ, a 7′ grand piano, a Yamaha synthesizer, and a budget to contract with high end instrumentalists and vocalists.

Most importantly, and the greatest resource, is a congregation and administration that supports fine music for enhancement of the worship experience.

Organist in Residence and Coordinator of Music

As Organist in Residence and Coordinator of Music, Marshall Carpenter programs and performs in approximately 52 small recitals annually.

Mr. Carpenter is a classically trained pianist and organist He has been a church artist for many years, and has a lengthy tenure at The Church of The Wayfarer.

For many years he was the organist at Calvary Episcopal Church, in Santa Cruz.

He has served as an accompanist for the Central Coast Section Honor Choir, and for other equally outstanding ensembles. Most recently he recorded the Christmas CD, In Dulci Jubilo, on the Schoenstein organ at The Wayfarer.
